Tragedy struck the Babangida family as former Super Eagles player Tijani Babangida was involved in a devastating car accident, resulting in the loss of his younger brother, Ibrahim Babangida.
The heartbreaking incident, which occurred along the Kaduna-Zaria Road on Thursday, was confirmed by ex-teammate Emmanuel Babayaro in a solemn statement.
In his announcement, Babayaro urged for solidarity in prayers for Tijani Babangida, who currently serves as the president of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN).
"Ibrahim Babangida, his younger brother, died on the spot from the accident while Mr. President (Babangida) and his family were taken to the hospital," Babayaro stated, expressing condolences and invoking prayers for the departed soul.
The Babangida family, including Tijani Babangida, has been admitted to Shika Hospital in Zaria for medical attention, following the tragic turn of events.
Ibrahim Babangida, aged 47, had been a notable member of the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning Golden Eagles squad in Japan, adding a poignant layer to the loss felt by the football community and beyond.
