Former Minister of Education and human right crusader, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili has given reasons she posts on issues of marriage and the family on her Social Media platforms.
Ezekwesili, a former World Bank President says “I occasionally post on Marriage and Family publicly because our world needs Professionals who are well-rounded in every aspect of their lives. I derive immense joy in seeing high-performing professionals who have beautiful marriages, as we are never successful until our Families joyfully say we are. And that’s because we did not “trade them off” for what strangers regard and celebrate as Success”.
From the outset of thinking marriage, we agreed to totally support each other to fulfill our Life Purposes. And it required two things: Do not do Career at the expense of Family and Do not do Family at the expense of Career.
Oby Ezekwesili opined that there are of course tensions between both goals but Purposefulness and Intentional Strategies help considerably to reduce the Trade-Offs so they do not become zero-sum games. Data helps. Every time you find that as a spouse you or your partner appear to be trading off one for the other, it is time to discuss and identify ways to rebalance and find harmony.
According to her, “This post may be especially helpful for husbands who struggle with supporting their wives to excel in their profession; and even for women who impose a restriction on themselves from being more in Career”.
